Council tax rises are set to continue

Given the economic outlook, even councils where tax has risen may still need to use reserves to bridge a funding gap caused by inflationary cost pressures, says Rob Whiteman.

The last few years have been tough for the public sector and councils are still struggling.

The chancellor's spring Budget did little to ease the tension. Councils are having to make difficult decisions on the prioritisation of services as budgets tighten.
