AUTUMN STATEMENT

Councils need assurance on adequate funding for next year

To save the local services we all rely on, councils need adequate funding, in line with inflation and the demand for services, and certainty to plan their budgets to minimise service disruption, says Cllr James Jamieson.

Local services on which so many people rely face a financial cliff edge due to dramatic increases in inflation, the National Living Wage and higher energy costs.

While announcements on the energy cap and national insurance rises are helpful, councils are still having to find ways to try and meet the £2.4bn in extra costs since they set their budgets in March.
