Scotland's councils are approaching a financial black hole of around £1bn, new figures compiled by a Scottish newspaper have found.

Since 2010 Scottish councils have received £800m less in real terms in their grants, with more than 40,000 posts removed through voluntary redundancies, natural wastage and internal changes.
