The number of children in custody could increase if plans to reduce funding for youth offending teams (YOTs) by £9m per year go ahead, council leaders have warned.

The Local Government Association (LGA) fears the move would result in higher costs for taxpayers as court ordered interventions will be prioritised over preventative work.
