Dawes: Councils will be able to set legal budgets

The Department for Communities and Local Government's (DCLG) permanent secretary has said she expects all councils to be able to set a legal budget for the year.

The Department for Communities and Local Government's (DCLG) permanent secretary has said she expects all councils to be able to set a legal budget for the year.

When asked at a communities and local government committee hearing if she knew of any authorities destined for financial failure this year, Melanie Dawes suggested the DCLG would be ‘surprised' if any council was unable to set a legal budget for next year.
