The downward blip in CPI is 'not ideal timing'

There is a danger the local government settlement will be constructed on an unrealistically low assumption about inflation and some of the increase will be swallowed up by NI contributions, says Ian Miller.

With less than a week to the chancellor's Budget statement, the District Councils' Network and other sectoral bodies continue lobbying to reinforce their submissions to the Treasury.

Many other organisations are doing so. No one is asking for less money – not a surprise after more than a decade of austerity and evidence of often fundamental problems across public services.
