Our economies are constrained by centuries old boundaries

Ian Miller calls for a bottom up approach to LEP boundaries in the future.

The Grant Thornton and District Councils' Network ‘Transformation in Localities' toolkit has a useful section on ‘collaborating for stronger economies', including the role district councils play in local enterprise partnerships.

The picture is not uniform, with districts having stronger representation on some Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) than others. The toolkit presents powerful reasons for involvement, which ties in with the strategic planning and housing role which district councils have.
