Elected mayors 'could stunt county economies'

County leaders have called on the Government to be flexible in delivering suitable governance models amid fears that imposing elected mayors on two-tier authorities could damage county economies.

County leaders have called on the Government to be flexible in delivering suitable governance models amid fears that imposing elected mayors on two-tier authorities could damage county economies.

The County Councils' Network (CCN) has told an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) inquiry that while some county areas may well consider an elected mayor alternative solutions were needed.
