While the attention of town hall planners is taken up with grand regeneration schemes to ease the housing shortage, I was pleased to see that the Government's housing strategy, ‘Laying the foundations', also paid attention to the large number of empty homes and the importance of bringing them back into use.

This is not just a housing issue but also one about the environment and fighting crime. A boarded-up property drags down the neighbourhood.
