The Government is to axe a cross-departmental body created to support economic growth in local areas. 

In a letter to council chief executives, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's (MHCLG) director general for local growth, communities and devolution Will Garton said the cities and local growth unit would close to focus ‘our people on ambitious agendas in our respective departments'.
