Final reflections

The MJ columnist Allen Graham has stood down as chief executive of Rushcliffe BC. He says the sector is ‘at a unique cross-roads where the dilemmas and challenges facing us must be met with creativity, transformation and collaboration’.

Three months ago I announced my intention to depart Rushcliffe BC, which was among the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I have been humbled and grateful for the many positive messages I have received about my leadership of a great workforce, community and organisation. At the same time have found myself wondering what difference I have really made, throughout a career spanning over 42 years.

I recently had the privilege of being invited to lead a workshop on commercial thinking at East Riding of Yorkshire Council. This was an amazing opportunity for me as it meant I was returning to the very building where my career in local government began.
