Finance chiefs should stress test their professional networks

As more councils declare their potential financial distress, no one person is going to have all the answers, 'but among the talent we have in the sector, there will always be someone to ask for help and advice', says Adele Taylor.

Rather than add more commentary on the current state of council finances, I thought a personal reflection on the practical realities of working at a council in intervention would be useful.

We often talk about the life of a chief financial officer (CFO) being a lonely one, but as we see more councils declaring their potential financial distress, knowing how to manage your personal resilience is key for those in CFO roles.
