'Flawed' consultation gains 58% support for Solent mayor

The Solent devolution consultation – which found just 58% of residents supported proposals for a mayor – has been blasted for sampling less than 1% of the local population.

The Solent devolution consultation – which found just 58% of residents supported proposals for a mayor – has been blasted for sampling less than 1% of the local population.

The fragile public backing was garnered from just over 2,500 completed questionnaires – nine-tenths of which were completed online – despite Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight councils serving almost 500,000 residents.
