A group of West Midlands councils has refused to bail out the region's pension fund, which is facing a £2.9bn deficit, and warned it needed to ‘live within its means'.

Birmingham City Council leader John Clancy claimed the West Midlands Pension Fund needed to ‘get its financial house together' after trustees asked the seven local councils to contribute an extra £100,000 next year.
