Government appoints SEND commissioner at Birmingham

A former council chief executive has been appointed to oversee improvements to Birmingham City Council’s special educational needs and disability (SEND) service.

A former council chief executive has been appointed to oversee improvements to Birmingham City Council's special educational needs and disability (SEND) service.

John Coughlan, who retired as chief executive of Hampshire CC earlier this year, will take on the role of SEND commissioner as part of a statutory direction issued by education secretary Nadhim Zahawi.
