Ministers' failure to patch up a social care system that is ‘riddled with holes' has this week been blamed on a lack of political will.

A joint report published by The King's Fund and The Nuffield Trust today warns that six years of budget cuts, rising demand and staff shortages means the funding gap will hit ‘at least £2.8bn' by the end of the decade.
