Government dismisses Redmond idea for audit regulator

The Government has poured cold water on the idea of a new independent regulator for local audit – the ‘central proposal’ of a review.

The Government has poured cold water on the idea of a new independent regulator for local audit – the ‘central proposal' of a review.

In its response to Sir Tony Redmond's call for an Office of Local Audit and Regulation, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) expressed fears it would recreate an organisation similar to the Audit Commission.
