Government flood review 'lacks substance'

The Government’s ‘disappointing’ review into flood defences ‘lacks substance’, fails to acknowledge the role of local government and will not prepare communities in the long-term, council leaders from areas ravaged by extreme weather have claimed.

The Government's ‘disappointing' review into flood defences ‘lacks substance', fails to acknowledge the role of local government and will not prepare communities in the long-term, council leaders from areas ravaged by extreme weather have claimed.  

The National Flood Resilience Review today pledged £12.5m towards temporary flood defences, but Leeds City Council leader Judith Blake said there was ‘nothing' in the report to address the ‘severe lack of long-term planning' in terms of future disaster prevention.
