The Government should push on fast with reorganisation

Anyone looking at bold plans for the future should bite the bullet on reorganisation and get it done fast, advises global chief executive of Ipsos Ben Page.

If you are ready to be levelled up, and I certainly am, then I bring you hope. The public gave the Conservative manifesto the thumbs up back in the innocent days of 2019, voting for ‘levelling up every part of the UK – not just investing in our great towns and cities, as well as rural and coastal areas, but giving them far more control of how that investment is made.

The man in charge, the very decent and competent Neil O'Brien, has spoken of the ‘outrage' of inequalities between different parts of Britain. Leaks now give us glimpses of unitary local government everywhere and bold targets on inequalities, 5G and more. But not quite yet. The central challenge will sadly, be resources, as ever.
