The new education secretary has scrapped controversial education legislation that would have required schools to become academies and removed councils’ role from school improvement.

The new education secretary has scrapped controversial education legislation that would have required schools to become academies and removed councils' role from school improvement. 

Councils fiercely opposed the Education for All Bill, which was announced in the Queen's Speech, claiming it focussed too heavily on structures.
