A coalition of influential health charities has urged the chancellor to prioritise the £1.9bn social care gap over the NHS when he outlines his spending plans in the Autumn Statement later this month.
A report by The King's Fund, The Health Foundation and Nuffield Trust warned of the escalating crisis and showed that social care spending had seen a 9% real terms drop since 2009/10, leading to 400,000 fewer people accessing services.
