The budget for improvement services could be opened up to the private sector, as exclusively revealed by The MJ, communities secretary Eric Pickles has confirmed.

In a written statement to Parliament today, Mr Pickles said: ‘The coalition Government's policy is to open up budgets to competition wherever possible.
