In winter 2018-19, five men tragically died within four months, after living on Calderdale's streets. Each man had suffered trauma and disadvantage. Their contact with public services was extensive, but often based on a singular response to a presenting issue, not always allowing problems to be resolved.

Calderdale's response to the men's harrowing stories shows how understanding the impact of trauma and taking a joined-up, localised approach to health and care can make a difference.
