We know the UK population has been growing year-on-year since 1982 and the 2018 mid-year estimates showed an addition of 395,000 people - or an increase of 0.6% for the year 2017/18. The rate is slowing, but economists are still estimating continued growth over the next 20 years with an additional 6.5million people in the UK by 2041.
We know we need somewhere near 300,000 new units of housing a year providing the right kind of accommodation for increasingly older people, independent people with disabilities and many more people on low incomes. We also know we will be caring for more people with complext health problems as they grow older, despite the hard work on encouraging healthy lifestyles.
