Local government is undergoing some of the most profound changes in its history. Heather Jameson talks to Mike King about the evolving role of the Ombudsman during this period of flux.

‘The thread that runs through all the things I've done has been justice – but everyday justice,' says Michael King, who took over as Local Government and Ombudsman (LGO) at the beginning of this year.

Mr King began his career as a freelance journalist, and fell into public services when he was regularly writing for the North Tyneside Council newspaper. ‘I realised how fascinating local government was,' he says.
