Labour government commits to council mergers push

Wales’ 22 councils will be merged into eight or nine to deliver net savings of up to £650m over 10 years, the Welsh Government has announced.

Wales' 22 councils will be merged into eight or nine to deliver net savings of up to £650m over 10 years, the Welsh Government has announced.

The Welsh Government, which this week published the proposed reforms in a draft Local Government Bill, anticipates that the mergers would pay for themselves within two to three years.
