Leaders respond to landmark devolution deals

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has accepted a metro mayor as part of its landmark devolution agreement, despite ‘scepticism' from some local bosses.

In the wake of the £1bn deal signed on 17 November, lead negotiator for the WMCA Cllr Darren Cooper admitted there has been some uncertainty about the prospect of having a directly-elected mayor.
