Local government leaders are ramping up the pressure on ministers to drop planned cuts in support for the sector or face more councils facing Northamptonshire-style crises.

The Local Government Association (LGA) today published a pre-Budget analysis of the impact of cuts next year on a notional typical council, ‘Anycouncil'. Millions of residents would see ‘key local services further dramatically reduced', the LGA warns, if a planned £1.3bn cut in the Revenue Support Grant (RSG) goes ahead.
