Government proposals to tackle risky borrowing by some councils could have ‘potentially devastating’ implications on the ability of many councils to deliver services, the Local Government Association (LGA) has warned.

Government proposals to tackle risky borrowing by some councils could have ‘potentially devastating' implications on the ability of many councils to deliver services, the Local Government Association (LGA) has warned.

Responding to a departmental consultation that closed last week, the association also warned the proposed changes would ‘compromise' national housing delivery - including schemes that have been agreed as a priority with the Government.
