Liverpool City Council is the latest authority to face questions over its ability to safeguard children after watchdogs highlighted ‘fundamental deficits' because of ‘ineffective management'.

A joint report by government inspectorates, including Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission, revealed children were at risk of sexual exploitation because of poor senior management oversight.
