Greater autonomy for councils will help them continue to make savings and reform public services in the face of more cuts, a Cabinet Office minister has said.

Speaking to The MJ after the future for public services conference, Matthew Hancock MP highlighted the effectiveness of local government efficiencies and developments over the last five years, but said new policy freedoms, such as George Osborne's latest business rates announcement, would empower them to achieve more.
