It is time for local government to call out unworkable pseudo-market systems

Writing on the RAAC debacle, Mo Baines says not so long ago the public estate was managed by local public servants with local knowledge, but there is now 'a dizzying number of providers'.

While voters can be fickle, there is an underlying trend that should worry politicians across all parties.

According to a recent Ipsos Political Monitor report, three in four think Britain is becoming a worse place to live. And that statistic was revealed before the reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) debacle in schools and public buildings hit the headlines.
