LONDON COUNCILS

London wants to support genuine sector-led improvement

Oflog has the potential to be part of a drive to improve local public services, but achieving this will require a robust co-design process with the sector, says Alison Griffin.

The existential question of what local government is for, what good actually looks like and what more councils could be doing to empower communities to experience a better quality of life than previous generations keeps many a chief executive and council leader up at night – myself included.

The stated vision for Oflog is to help drive improvement in performance to the benefit of residents – very much in line with what we all care about. However, there is understandably an anxiety about league tables and metrics presented without context. There are also concerns that the first set of measures published will be of limited use in understanding organisational effectiveness.
