I've been reflecting about how we can attract people to work in the public sector at a time when the financial pressure shows no signs of easing.

I have been thinking about the rich history of local government service – both staff volunteers – who support the various professional bodies which serve local government and the many volunteers who help ensure services are delivered to the public.
