A Labour MP has called for a commission to be set up to consider whether English local authorities should be given the same fiscal and taxation powers already devolved to Scotland.

A Labour MP has called for a commission to be set up to consider whether English local authorities should be given the same fiscal and taxation powers already devolved to Scotland.

An amendment to the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill, tabled by Nottingham North MP Graham Allen, would require the secretary of state to appoint a commission to assess the possibility of granting councils in England the same financial responsibilities as were set out in the Scotland Act 2012. x
