MPs sceptical over council audit shakeup

The influential Public Accounts Committee quizzed mandarins over the new powers given to the Audit, Reporting and Governance Authority (ARGA).

MPs have expressed scepticism about a new finance body being handed powers over local government audit.

It was announced yesterday the Audit, Reporting and Governance Authority (ARGA) will report on the sector and have responsibility for the Code of Local Audit Practice, with Public Sector Audit Appointments (PSAA) retaining its procurement role.
