The Government has launched its inevitable bonfire of the quangos, kicking off with the mammoth decision to scrap NHS England and run health services from the centre.

As just about every government goes on a quango cull – and indeed a crackdown on benefits (tick) – you could be forgiven for thinking there was little left to scrap. Someone somewhere must be manufacturing new bodies as quickly as they disappear.
