Chancellor George Osborne has defended his Northern Powerhouse project following criticism of the Government’s commitment after it paused the electrification of a key rail route.

Chancellor George Osborne has defended his Northern Powerhouse project following criticism of the Government's commitment after it paused the electrification of a key rail route.

Manchester City Council leader Richard Leese was among those left disappointed after the decision.
