Party conferences are a golden opportunity for districts

In party conference season the hope is that collectively councillors can influence their party’s leadership, relevant think-tanks, MPs and prospective MPs, says chairman of the District Councils' Network Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen.

Every councillor attending their party's annual conference this year is acutely aware it could well be the last such event prior to the General Election.

Local government delegates visiting the three main parties' flagship events in Bournemouth, Manchester and Liverpool are being presented with a golden opportunity. These are among the last significant chances we have to influence the debate within our party prior to its programme for Government being finalised.
