Peers defeat Children and Social Work Bill 'exemption clause'

Peers have defeated a clause in the Children and Social Work Bill that would exempt councils from their statutory responsibilities to vulnerable children.

Peers have defeated a clause in the Children and Social Work Bill that would exempt councils from their statutory responsibilities to vulnerable children.

The clause, which Lords voted 245 to 213 against, would enable the secretary of state to relieve councils of their legal duties to children in order to pilot new innovative ways of working.
