Playing the long game

Rachael Wardell speaks to Ann McGauran about the capacity issues facing social workers, the need for staff to stay long enough to build long-term relationships, the pressures of intervention, and spiralling agency costs.

Insufficient workforce capacity in children's social care and a shortage in particular of experienced social workers, is ‘a chronic problem that has flashpoints'.

That's the view of the chair of the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) Workforce Development Policy Committee Rachael Wardell.
