New PM must turn levelling up commitments into action

Next month’s successful candidate should use their first speech as Prime Minister to recommit to levelling up as the key domestic policy of their premiership, with a pledge to kick-start progress immediately, says Andrew Carter.

As Conservative Party members make their decision on who should be their next leader, we're getting very close to finding out who will be the country's next Prime Minister, what their premiership will mean for the future of the UK, and indeed what it will mean for the policies of Boris Johnson's Government.

A new leader is always keen to make their mark and cement their legacy with a flurry of new policies – and the dismantling of some existing ones. So, it has been very good to hear that both Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss have committed to pushing on with the levelling up agenda if elected.
