Senior council leaders have denounced NHS spending amid fears the health service's poor financial management will derail plans to sustainably fund health and social care.

Local Government Association (LGA) chairman Gary Porter told members of the executive yesterday that sustainability and transformation plans (STP) were at risk because there was ‘far too much money' in the health service and a ‘lack of finance directors and section 151 officers' signing off NHS books.
