Putting culture at Durham's core

While cuts to cultural services have become the norm across local government, Durham Council has put it at the heart of their economic growth strategy. Martin Ford speaks to chief executive John Hewitt about their approach.

Local government's financial woes have taken their toll on most, if not all of the many services they provide.

However, those relating to culture – from performing arts and heritage to libraries and sport – have been hit particularly hard in recent years.
