Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has said mayors will form the vanguard of an ‘army to take on the blockers' of housebuilding.

Speaking at the Convention of the North, she announced mayors will be granted powers to call in large-scale planning applications and that Homes England would be moved to a regional model to improve working with strategic authorities.
