Cumberland and Dorset councils have both being found to have ‘significant weaknesses' by auditors Grant Thornton.

The firm said Cumberland had weaknesses with regard to value for money and faced ‘many challenges. It identified six ‘significant weaknesses' in the council's accounts for 2023-24, including ‘significant' overspending and incomplete financial monitoring information.
