Still time for social care

The chancellor has failed to address the acute social care pressures facing councils but the Government can still act, argues Cllr Ray Puddifoot.

Last week, as councillors and local government officials eagerly awaited the Autumn Statement, there was one area where we particularly needed good news: social care funding.

Well before the chancellor stood up at the despatch box, I had written to him – along with the chair of the London Association of Adult Social Services and the president of the London Society of Treasurers – to outline the urgent action needed to avert a social care crisis in the capital.
