Life chances and economic growth sat centre stage in the Queen's Speech last week – putting local government at the heart of the coming legislative programme.

As Her Majesty outlined 21 new bills at the state opening of parliament, it became apparent local government is set to see a raft of laws impacting across the sector in the coming year.
