Council directors have piled in on the Government’s Clean Air Strategy, claiming ministers have shifted the burden of implementing ‘politically unpalatable’ measures onto overstretched authorities.

Council directors have piled in on the Government's Clean Air Strategy, claiming ministers have shifted the burden of implementing ‘politically unpalatable' measures onto overstretched authorities. 

The Government this week announced councils could bid for a slice of a £255m implementation fund to tackle nitrogen dioxide levels, putting councils at the forefront of the fight to improve air quality.
