The value of combining public services

Public services organised locally can respond to people's needs more effectively and efficiently, says Daniel Goodwin.

For decades, politicians and professionals have spoken about the need to join up public services to make more effective use of resources.

In the past, this has proven difficult because of the departmental and service silos which take a lot of effort to break down. The austerity agenda is starting to make that effort look increasingly worthwhile.
